Top Of The M (High Tea)

Another buffet post. This was done at Top of the M with my gf when we were there for high tea on a recent Saturday. Also featured in Singapore Tatler as one of Singapore's best restaurants, i had high expectations when i visited. Was it justified though?

We trudged and queued and squeezed our way through the MRT and loads of weekend shoppers to get here so we were really happy when there was more then enough space to move around and enjoy a moment of absolute freedom of movement. As i'm not too sure of how to write about buffets, do enjoy the pictures.

Desserts and Cakes Anyone?

Chocolate Fondue?

My gf got quite a few helpings of fondue and i must say the chocolate mix used struck a fine balance between tasting bitter and sweet and the same time. The result is a very appetizing fondue mixture that does not overwhelm.

Smoked Salmon

The salmon has got to be one of the better dishes around. Fresh, thick and lightly smoked, it is salty and fragrant but otherwise very tasty and sweet.

The main courses for high tea

The prawns were crunchy and sweet while the squid was too rubbery for my liking. Chicken was tender but otherwise normal. The seafood pot you see is warm and a little too salty. The butter rice which you do not see here was fragrant but a little too dry. The other items were forgettable.

Desserts

The cakes are undoubtedly the better items of the day.

The real stars of the day were these 2 fine gentlemen who sang songs by request and goes from table to table to belt out tunes which ranged from classic to contemporary.

Bill

The meal came up to $82.40 for 2 people for high tea on this busy Saturday. We came away stuffed like ducks and loved the songs and view.

Last Word:
The meal offerings were nothing to shout about but the view, experience and the singers made up for the lack of good food. Still, its unfair to judge the place by their high tea offerings since their signature dishes were nowhere to be found. I'll probably be back to try their set lunch offerings one day to truly judge the place. For high tea though, there are better places out there.
